Meet the Counselor

Learn more about my background, clinical experience, and the approach I use to support clients in a safe, collaborative, and trauma-informed space.

Hello, my name is Ashlyn Gonzales, previously known as Ashlyn Wall, and I'm a counselor based in the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) of Texas. I hold a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and am a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate, practicing under the supervision of Juan Hernandez, LPC-S.

I bring over 8 years of experience in behavioral health, through both community based and clinical settings. I am deeply passionate about supporting individuals as they navigate healing, build stability, and reconnect with themselves in meaningful ways.

My work is rooted in both clinical training and a faith-informed perspective on healing. As a trauma survivor myself, I understand how deeply life experiences can shape the way we see ourselves, others, and the world. This informs my commitment to creating a space that is safe, compassionate, and grounded in genuine understanding- not just theory.

All counseling services are provided through Abide in the Vine Counseling, PLLC, ensuring a professional, ethical, and supportive environment for care. Counseling services are available to Texas residents only. I work with individuals ages 12 and up.

The Heart Behind My Work:

My counseling approach is person-centered, trauma-informed, and grounded in empathy, attunement, safety, and collaboration. I work from an attachment-informed perspective, recognizing that many of the struggles people experience in the present are often shaped by earlier relationships and lived experiences. Patterns that feel overwhelming or confusing are typically adaptive responses that once served a protective function.

In therapy, we gently begin to understand those patterns rather than fight against them. My focus is not on “fixing” people, but on supporting greater awareness, internal safety, and the capacity to relate to oneself with more understanding and flexibility over time.

I take an integrative approach to treatment, tailoring therapy to each individual and drawing from evidence-based modalities such as:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS)

  • Somatic techniques

  • Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy

  • Narrative Therapy

  • Expressive Arts Therapy

  • EMDR-informed skills

  • Christian Counseling

  • and other approaches as clinically appropriate

Therapy may involve building stabilization and coping skills, processing emotional experiences, increasing insight into patterns, or working toward deeper integration- depending on what is most appropriate and supportive at any given stage of the work. I place a strong emphasis on pacing, ensuring that the work remains grounded in emotional safety and aligned with each client’s readiness and capacity. My role is to walk alongside clients with presence, curiosity, and clinical attunement while supporting meaningful and sustainable change over time.

I work with adolescents (ages 12+) and adults throughout Texas who are seeking support with a variety of emotional and relational concerns.

Much of my work focuses on individuals who have experienced trauma, including relational and complex trauma (CPTSD); such as domestic violence, emotional abuse, sexual assault, past history of child abuse, or other painful relational experiences that continue to impact their present lives.

I also work with individuals navigating:

  • Anxiety and chronic stress

  • Emotional overwhelm or dysregulation

  • Attachment wounds and relationship difficulties

  • Burnout and feeling emotionally “stuck”

  • Low self-worth or identity-related struggles

  • Difficulty feeling grounded, connected, or present in daily life

Some clients come in with a clear trauma history, while others simply know that something feels heavy, disconnected, or difficult to move through alone. Wherever you find yourself, the work begins with meeting you there.

An overview of the therapeutic approach I cultivate in my work- rooted in care, connection and the process of restoration.
